Beautiful antique French ormolu jewelry box, lined with pale blue padded silk.
This jewelry box is a beautifully aged piece that is full of faded grandeur.
Dating from the late 1880's' this is a beautiful timeworn jewellery box that would originally
have graced a mademoiselle's boudoir to hold her trinkets and necessaire treasures.
The lid has a beautifully detailed scrolls which could be polished, but I will leave this for you
as I prefer the authentic nature of it's current condition.
In aged condition, the interior is shabby, as pictured. Still a great piece!

Ormolu is an English term, used since the 18th century for the gilding technique of applying finely ground,
high-carat gold–mercury amalgam to an object of bronze, and for objects finished in this way.
The mercury is driven off in a kiln leaving behind a gold coating.
The French refer to this technique as bronze doré; in English, it is known as "gilt bronze".
